BIOBLABLA
Wonder is a female poet, a painter of thoughts, a writer of short stories and an upside down thinker, she describes her poetry as 'spoken songs' written when the world is asleep.
She fits her rhythmic poetry around samples and in between soundscapes which, on different occasions, has labeled her as a 'sample poet'. But the stage isn't the only place where her words find their way, she looks for boundaries to bring her words to life. She has published her poetry in various Dutch magazines interacting her words with the work of different photographers, she has combined her poems with theatre dialogues, she has written cross media performance pieces (combining words/poems, modern dance, short film etc.) and she has delivered her words to soundtracks in three short independent films. In the same way that her performances create
rhythmical worlds, her paintings are small stories on canvas. Wonder: "to me, my paintings resemble music by arranging words, colors, materials and text, in a way it is just like my performance work, but then my paintings are made in a longer lasting bubble. I take forever to make them".
Over the last couple of years she has delivered her poems between musical rhythms and created an intimate atmosphere at various venues and festivals, from the World Port Jazz festival in Rotterdam, the 'Nachten' festival in Antwerp, Palabras nights in Amsterdam to the Battersea Art Centre in London,
the Contact Theatre in Manchester, the International Literature festival
in Berlin and the Double Talk Festival in Amsterdam. She disarms the audience with her serene voice and intense lines, letting them in on her world, on emotions that never seem to rest.
Wrapped in her love for music and words she started the small record label 'Manic Monk Records' and independently released her first album ‘Desdemona Died’ in July 2004. Her next release featuring a number of different musical producers will probably be born at the end of 2007
and will be a collaboration with musicians and producers from Manchester
and Amsterdam.
